Yesterday, I had the honor of being the DJ for Ryan & Jessica’s truly beautiful wedding at the Full Moon Resort in Big Indian, NY. The resort is about a 2 hour drive from Albany and slightly outside of Saugerties in the Catskills, but such a scenic drive with a ton of mountain views!
Jessica had reached out to SoundFormula Entertainment last September to DJ her wedding at the newly built Pavilion at the Full Moon Resort, a structure that her Grandfather Michael (owner of Full Moon) had recently constructed. After only one or two planning sessions, Jessica and I spoke about her likes and dislikes in music to build the perfect soundtrack for her wedding day.
The spring weather in NY this year is so fickle! But, on my drive down to Big Indian, the sun was shining and my car told me that it was 88 degrees. In May, that’s pretty impressive! Ryan & Jessica chose to have their wedding in the lower grove at the resort, a woodsy, grassy and lovely location if only had the rain held up for just a couple more minutes. We didn’t let a little (or A LOT) of rain stop us from having an outdoor ceremony. We just moved it to the nearby tent Plan B.
Ryan and Jessica had hired a Quartet to play some beautiful background music as guests arrived and a few selections as their Precessional and Processional song choice. Jessica was walked down the aisle by two of her dads, Ed & Joel. Their good friend Rick Mullen did a wonderful job officiating the wedding with some laughs and tear jerker moments. We concluded the ceremony on my wireless battery powered Bose ceremony speaker with “I’ll Follow You Into The Dark (Death Cab Cover)” by Jasmine Thompson as their Recessional song choice.
Following the ceremony, the guests all moved to the Barn to enjoy cocktail hour in which the Quartet had also played for the full hour as I continued to make sure the Pavilion would be stunning once the reception began. I started off by highlighting the decorative support beams with my wireless uplighting that we had set to a Candlelight color to accent the rustic setting and the elegance of this wedding. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner (Michael) of the Full Moon Resort who advised me that the Pavilion was constructed with Live Music in mind. The acoustics here are top notch and a DJ’s dream! Although, the acoustics were great, I still wanted to make sure that the sound was PERFECT! Aside from the main DJ rig with our two AMAZING Electro Voice Evolve 50 Line Array speakers, I also setup a wireless Bose speaker on the opposite side of the room to even out the sound and to make sure that everyone not only heard the music and the toasts, but they heard it crystal clear without being obnoxiously loud.
Luckily, the rain let up and provided for a very pleasant wedding day for Ryan & Jessica as their guests began to make their way over to the Pavilion for the reception formalities. The Pavilion is HUGE and can easily fit 200 guests, if not more. PLUS, there was more seating up in the beautifully decorated loft. Guests were welcomed into the reception with a subtle mix of Motown classics and some laid back selections from Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Donavon Frankenreiter, and Colbie Cailat. There had to have been ATLEAST 200 guests in attendance. I knew right off the bat that these guests came ready to party!
Shortly after, I went outside and lined up Ryan and Jess’ wedding party which involved 5 pairs of their closest friends and their parents. Ryan and Jess chose to have everyone introduced to “Another One Bites The Dust” by Queen. Following the introductions, Ryan & Jess took the floor to dance their first dance of many as husband and wife. They chose to have Jess’s dad Joel and her bridesmaid Jessica Reisman perform “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” by Meghan Trainor LIVE as a keyboard / singer duo and probably the most heat felt first dance that i’ve seen in a while! Jessica and Joel’s performance was one of the many highlights for me and so beautifully executed! Following the performance, Jess chose to dance to “Slow Down” by Nicole Nordeman and danced half of the song with her dad Ed and the last half of the song with her other dad Joel. After, Ryan chose to dance with his mom Leslie to “In My Life” by The Beatles.
We wrapped up the first half of our formalities with a couple of toasts from the two Maids Of Honor Melissa and Gina who collaborated on their toast followed by the Best Man Duncan Moss who brought it all home for us! During dinner, the couple decided on having Crooner’s (Sinatra, Buble, Dean Martin) music as their background music choice.
We didn’t waste any time getting the party started shortly after dinner. Ryan and Jess were pretty open to music from different genres and decades and put a lot of their trust into me as their DJ. We quickly got everyone young and old out of their seats and onto the dance floor to celebrate with the newlyweds. I kept everyone on their feet with a super fun upbeat mix of Oldies, 80’s, 90’s, Old School Hiphop, Early 2000’s and some current Top 40’s.
45 minutes into the dance set, we chose to have the guests join Jessica and Ryan for the traditional cake cutting. Ryan and Jess chose to have a small, but very beautiful cake for themselves and a spread of other sweets including donuts, cookies, shooters and coffee for all of their guests. They chose to cut their cake to “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds.
Shortly after the cake cutting, we had everyone right back on the floor for the entire two and a half hours where we even had a few dance circles / dance off’s occur and a sea of hands in the air clapping to the beat of the music until the very end!
Congratulations Ryan & Jessica Leduc and thank you so much for giving me the honor of being your DJ and trusting me with your very special day!
